Before we dive in today's episode, let me ask you, how often do you find yourself caught up in the mental battle of your workout? You know, there's moments when you're questioning whether you pushed hard enough, or even if you should show up at all today, we're talking about how to harness the power of your internal dialogue. To not only stay consistent, also find strength and resilience in the process. So stick around. This one's sure going to make a difference. Welcome back to miles from review the podcast, where we dive deep into unfiltered reality of fitness, strength training, and nutrition within womanhood and motherhood. I'm your host, Kat, the founder of Kat Fit Strength. I'm a career strength and conditioning coach, entrepreneur, lifelong athlete, and a mom of two active. Today. We're exploring the topic that's Crucial for all of us, especially busy moms, the mental side of fitness, you know, you're between school drop offs, work meetings, and the endless to do list and finding the time and energy for your workouts can feel like an uphill battle. Trust me, I am right there with you. But what if I told you that the key to staying consistent and strong lies in the conversations you have with yourself? So let's dive in. So we're going to start with the power of the internal dialogue. As moms, our mental chatter can be relentless. Did I push hard enough? Should I have skipped today? Am I doing this right? But see, here's the thing. Your internal dialogue isn't just about being your own cheerleader. It can also may help you make real time decisions during your workouts in assessing those choices after with compassion. And that can be hard. And it doesn't always have to be. And I feel when I've worked with clients, I help them decode that I'm able to ask them questions and help them get out of their head versus that. Am I doing good or am I doing poorly or becoming their own worst critic when they're looking at, should I push harder? Do I need to rest day or is this exercise right for me? One of the things that really helps me, and I uncovered this in the book, do hard things, a brilliant book. I love it. I've read it through twice and I'll probably reread it again. There's a powerful concept that can change the way you approach your fitness and it's called raising the floor to the ceiling. This means meeting yourself where you are at that day. I mean, okay. You're a human being. You're not a robot. So there are going to be days where your energy and motivation are sky high and you can really crush any workout, any task that is set in front of you. And then other days, just showing up is a huge victory. And when you raise that floor to that same level, ceiling, you're adjusting your expectations so that they're always aligned with where you are mentally and physically. And you can push back against those negative thoughts and see the progress that is happening. So that's why I always kind of ask myself, how can I raise the floor to the ceiling? You know, I get it. You are someone who wants those big goals. You want that ultimate goal like yesterday, and that can also cripple you. So that brings me to my next point. Embrace the imperfect process. Perfection is a myth, especially when it comes to fitness. The reality is you will never perfect the process, but what you can do is learn how to push away those doubts and start recognizing those small victories. So you're a busy mom and you know, I get you have big goals, whether it's feeling stronger, more energy or being consistent with those workouts. It can sometimes blind us to the progress that we are making right now. Take lifting. For example, you may have a goal to lift a certain weight by the end of the month. Some days as you're building towards that, the weights that you're lifting can feel really light, but other days it may just feel impossible. That's okay. And that is completely normal. Many factors that go into it is stress, lack of sleep, and everything else that life can throw at you will impact your performance. But by meeting yourself where you're at each day, raising the floor to the ceiling, you can approach your workouts with more grace and less frustration. This episode of miles for review is powered by Catfish Strength. At Catfish Strength, I'm all about creating strength and cardio programs that fit your life. Not the other way around. With CatFit Strength Premier, you get personalized plans, live coaching, and all the support you need to crush your goals. And for those who need a little less guidance, but still want expertly designed workouts, there's CatFit Strength Essentials. Guess what? I'm currently taking on new clients. So if you're ready to start your journey, now's the perfect time to join. Number three, consistency over perfection. One of the unchanging truths about fitness is that the results are fleeting. You can't just hit a goal, then stop and never do anything else for it. To maintain what you have achieved, you have to keep showing up day after day. This is where the concept of raising the floor really comes into play. On those days when you're feeling low, rather than pushing for a perfect workout, focus on what you're doing and what you can do is going to help. Maybe it's. a shorter session, a lighter weight, or even changing it up and doing a walk or mobility. The important thing is that you are showing up and keeping that habit, keeping that, um, session there and alive. For busy moms, I really do feel this approach can make all the difference. It's understanding that not every workout will be your best. And that is perfectly fine. The key to consistency is staying in the game. Even if some days feel like you're barely hanging on, it is okay. I've been there. And the truth is you may have a little bit more of those days in the beginning, then A little bit later on into the process of when you know that showing up for 15 minutes versus a full workout is still going to be beneficial. Just because a workout felt easy last week too does not mean it will today. You're a human being and I can't stress that enough. You're not a robot. Your body and mind are constantly in flux and that's normal. What matters is that you're still moving forward. Even if the piece changes, I'm a big runner. If you know me in real life or maybe you've been listening to this podcast or follow me on social media and one of the things that I tell myself is that forward progress is forward progress and the finish line is one step closer. If I just put that left foot in front of the right foot and keep moving forward, it doesn't matter about your pace. Each person is different and in the society where it is very easy to see other people's journeys in a little tiny picture on the gram or on whatever social media, um, you hang out. It can give this notion that it's, It's all happening for that person, but the truth is you have to focus on your piece and that will truly help you. All right, wrap up to really define your fitness. It's not about perfection. It's about persistence. It is by needing yourself. where you are each day, raising that floor to that ceiling. You're not just maintaining your fitness. You're building resilience and strength that go beyond the gym. So keep showing up, embrace the journey. And remember you're doing incredible things both in and outside your workouts.
